Wilbur L. Ross, Jr. was sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence as the 39th Secretary of Commerce on February 28, 2017. Last month, during a meeting of the National Space Council (NSC), Secretary Ross addressed the NSC and recommended the Office of Space Commerce and the Commercial Remote Sensing Regulatory Affairs office be moved from their present location in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to his direct oversight in the Office of the Secretary.  The proposed elevated and amplified Office of Space Commerce would coordinate all space-related functions at the Department including remote sensing, spectrum policy, business and trade promotion, and export controls.
