Ctrip participates in “Be Yourself: Pledge for Progress” to foster women’s empowerment within the workplace

XI’AN, China, May 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ctrip (NASDAQ:CTRP) Asia’s leading Online Travel Agency (OTA) and the world’s second largest, announced it would be participating in the “Be Yourself: Pledge for Progress” campaign. Led by the UK Government in China, and in partnership with China’s Mulan Club and British Chamber of Commerce in China the ‘Be Yourself: Pledge for Progress’ campaign promotes women’s empowerment within the workplace.

“Today, we are in the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, an era characterized by technological fusion and the emergence of transformative technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Cloud Computing” said Ctrip CEO, Jane Sun. “As technology represents innovation and progress, I am encouraged to see more technology companies promoting equal status for women, providing platforms for women to grow their careers, and most importantly, shattering the ‘glass ceiling’ when it comes to senior management positions.”

Ctrip has continuously promoted women’s equality and is committed to improving women’s status within the workplace. At Ctrip, women make up more than half of the 30,000 plus employee base and also occupy one-third of the senior management. Over 30% of the 7,000 engineers at Ctrip are women, exceeding the average of any Internet company in China or Silicon Valley.

During the launch event attended by the British Ambassador to China, Dame Barbara Woodward, the UK’s Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion at the Department for International Trade, Baroness Fairhead CBE, Ctrip representative Ms. Li Ahong, General Manager of North China Region, pledged to ensure the health, safety and well-being of over 15,000 female employees and their families, while also promoting education, training and professional development for Ctrip female employees to take up management positions in the future.

“I am pleased to be launching our new initiative: “Be Yourself: Pledge for Progress”, bringing together British and Chinese business representatives in China to pledge their support to undertake practical and effective women’s empowerment initiatives in their organisations” said Barbara Woodward. “We want to create a platform for all enterprises in China to share best practice and positively influence working practices.”

Last year Ctrip also signed a Statement of Support for the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles. Ctrip has practiced ‘same work, same pay’ since its founding and simultaneously promoted progressive policies to support employees and work-life balance. “As Ctrip has grown into the largest online travel agency in Asia and one of the largest in the world, gender equality has never been just a slogan, but a key advantage driving our success” stated Jane Sun “Every company has a responsibility to instill a culture of gender equality to create a better environment for future generations.”

As China’s leading one-stop shop travel service provider, Ctrip continues to promote women’s empowerment within the work place, ensuring women are given equal opportunities in driving growth and innovation.
