VelocityEHS Wins Environmental Leader Project of the Year Award for its MSDSonline Hurricane Relief Efforts

The VelocityEHS | MSDSonline Hurricane Hazardous Chemical MSDS/SDS Access Program provided companies and relief agencies in areas struck by Hurricane Harvey free and easy access to life-saving chemical information

CHICAGO, May 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VelocityEHS, the global leader in cloud-based environment, health, safety (EHS) and sustainability solutions, today announced that the VelocityEHS | MSDSonline Hurricane Hazardous Chemical MSDS/SDS Access program was named Project of the Year by Environmental Leader. The project was recognized for the free MSDSonline safety data sheet (SDS) access it provided to organizations, emergency responders and local businesses affected by Hurricane Harvey.

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck the U.S. Gulf Coast region, an area home to nearly a quarter of the nation’s oil refining capacity and half of its chemical manufacturing facilities. VelocityEHS recognized the dangers surrounding hazardous chemical leaks and spills in the area, as well as the potential magnitude of exposure risks. The company responded by building and releasing a custom version of its MSDSonline platform specifically for those affected by the storm, making it possible for them to access its database of critical chemical safety information for free.

Through the Hurricane Hazardous Chemical MSDS/SDS Access program, emergency first responders, businesses and others unable to retrieve on-site SDS binders were able to search through the millions of documents in the company’s online document database or call the designated storm relief hotline to locate the information necessary to keep those coming into contact with the spilled chemicals safe. VelocityEHS also made the platform available to those in need following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which struck Puerto Rico in September 2017.

“We are honored to be recognized by Environmental Leader and its esteemed group of judges,” said Glenn Trout, president and CEO of VelocityEHS. “This award is a true testament to our steadfast commitment to worker and community safety, especially in times of crisis. Many hazardous chemical safety documents become unreachable after a spill or other disaster has occurred, putting those involved in spill mitigation and control at substantial risk. By removing the firewalls to offer our services for no cost to those affected by the storm, we broke the industry mold to do what we felt was necessary and right.”

Each year, the Environmental Leader Product and Project Awards recognize excellence in products and services that provide companies with energy and environmental benefits, and programs that improve environmental or energy management and increased the bottom line. Winners are awarded based on scores from a panel of judges with exceptional experience in the field of environmental management.

“Working together within just a few days’ time, the VelocityEHS team was able to quickly work out program logistics, deploy the free access platform and communicate its availability to the necessary audiences in need of it. As a result, we were able to provide hundreds of safety data sheet documents that may have otherwise been unattainable to affected companies and first responders, helping to keep them and their communities safe,” said Michael Flynn, vice president of product development at VelocityEHS.
