NomNomNow Launches First Made-to-Order Fresh Nutrition for Cats

Cat-owners can now get freshly-made, custom-portioned meals to support long and healthy lives for their pets

SAN FRANCISCO, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NomNomNow, the leader in made-to-order fresh pet food, today introduced the first-ever custom-portioned, direct-to-consumer, fresh nutrition for cats, now available exclusively at NomNomNow.com.

Known for its unique, made-to-order fresh dog food, NomNomNow is the only company that makes fresh pet food to order in its own manufacturing facility, pre-portions every meal for every pet, and delivers them in weekly shipments directly to customers.

For decades, cat food options have been limited to kibbles and canned foods, often made with potentially harmful chemicals and artificial ingredients. In order to bind together ingredients, kibble recipes include high portions of carbohydrates, which cats don’t need. Canned cat food is no better, often containing traces of chemicals from the interior lining of the cans, which is less than ideal for cats to consume long-term.

“Cats are part of the family, which is why I know we can do better for their health!” said Nate Phillips, CEO and co-founder of NomNomNow. “Cats suffer from ridiculously high rates of obesity and other health problems in large part because common cat diets consist of low-quality, highly processed and unbalanced foods. That’s why we’ve put so much care into developing a fresh and complete nutrition program for cats, served in custom portions to make life easy for pets and their owners.”

Recent findings from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) suggested that approximately 60% of cats in the U.S. were classified as overweight in 2017, an increase from 2016’s findings, due in large part to overfeeding. By pre-portioning meals based on each cat’s unique nutritional requirements, NomNomNow eliminates the possibility of overfeeding.

NomNomNow for cats is available in two delicious and nutritious recipes: Flavorful Fish Feast and Chicken Chow-Meow. Both formulations were developed by the company’s Chief Nutrition Officer, board-certified veterinary nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg. A practicing vet and a faculty member of integrative medicine at a leading college of veterinary medicine, Dr. Shmalberg is one of fewer than 100 board-certified veterinary nutritionists in the country.

“Unlike dogs, cats are obligate carnivores, and many retain the instinct to hunt prey,” said Dr. Shmalberg. “We deliberately designed these recipes to feature digestible sources of high-quality protein and nutrient-rich vegetables, to match the low-carbohydrate nutrient profile of the typical natural prey of wild cats.”

NomNomNow’s fresh food approach provides ample moisture within the food itself, which can benefit cats, especially those with urinary tract issues. Both recipes also include the NomNomNutrient Mix (an expertly formulated vitamin and mineral blend), to provide cats with the nutrition that they need to thrive at all stages of life.

The launch of NomNomNow for Cats comes on the heels of $13 million in venture funding, which is being used to expand operations, invest in proprietary software, make key hires, and increase production capacity.
