SUBWAY® restaurants in Ontario raise over 151,000 meals to help address summer hunger

TORONTO, May 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SUBWAY® restaurants across Ontario have partnered, once again, with the Ontario Association of Food Banks to address summer hunger. Through the ‘Make Someone’s Day with Sub of the Day’ campaign, which ran from February 12th – April 1st, 2018, participating SUBWAY® restaurants raised an incredible 151,107 meals, surpassing last year’s total of 118,600 meals.

“On behalf of the Ontario food bank network and the families we serve, we would like to thank SUBWAY® restaurants for this incredible support,” says Carolyn Stewart, Executive Director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks. “Summer is often a challenging time for food banks, as donations decrease but the need remains the same. SUBWAY® restaurants’ commitment will go a long way in helping us ensure that food bank shelves remain full and that families across the province are able to receive consistent support throughout the year.”

Through the ‘Make Someone’s Day with Sub of the Day’ initiative, SUBWAY® restaurants across Ontario donated one meal to the Ontario Association of Food Banks for every 10 Sub of the Day ™ subs sold. As locally owned and operated franchises, SUBWAY® restaurants are proud to further their commitment to the local community.

“With over 499,000 adults, children, and seniors visiting Ontario’s food banks every year, we rely on the generous support of community partners to help ensure families have access to nutritious food and programs when they visit our services,” says Stewart. “We are incredibly grateful for SUBWAY® restaurants’ ongoing support to local communities and families in need.”

Today also launches the beginning of Food Banks Canada’s “Every Plate Full” campaign. The Ontario Association of Food Banks is participating in this initiative with the continued goal of raising awareness of summer hunger, and encouraging Canadians to help fill the plates of families in need. This campaign will run until June 8th, 2018.
