DISNEY STAR JENNA ORTEGA UNITES WITH LATINO COMMISSION ON AIDS AS YOUTH AMBASSADOR

New York, May 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WHO: The Latino Commission on AIDS will induct Actress Jenna Ortega as its Youth Ambassador at its annual Cielo benefit gala. Ms. Ortega is among several celebrities and leaders who will be recognized at the event, including:  

•          Johanne Morne, Director, NYS Department of Health, AIDS Institute –Compañera Award

•          El Centro Hispano of North Carolina – Fuerza Award

•          PhRMA – Business Leadership Award

•          Dr. Jeremy Boal, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Mount Sinai Health System - Esperanza Award 

•          Jenna Ortega, Disney Channel star - Youth Ambassador

Actor J.W Cortez will induct Miss Universe 2018 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Amara La Negra as the newest Madrinas of the Latino Commission on AIDS to promote HIV and AIDS awareness, prevention, and treatment among Latino communities throughout the country and internationally.  

Tenor and NBC “America’s Got Talent” star Carlos Aponte, and the Brooklyn based band Los Hacheros will perform, and Puerto Rico fashion designer Stella Nolasco will present special fashion show from her collection.

The evening will consist of a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and the awards presentation.

The Cielo Gala raises funds in support of the Latino Commission on AIDS to create and promote HIV and AIDS service programs and initiatives aimed at increasing awareness, prevention, and treatment education, as well as building capacity among other organizations serving Latino communities throughout the U.S. and the Territories. This year, the Cielo Gala will highlight the work of the Commission’s Latinos in the Deep South program. The project launched in 2006 as a regional assessment to learn about the realities and needs of growing Hispanic/Latino communities in the southern United States, where new HIV infection rates have been the highest in the nation.
