ACWA Comments on Passage of Proposition 68

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Timothy Quinn, executive director of the statewide Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), issued the following statement today in response to California voters’ approval of Proposition 68, the California Clean Water and Safe Parks Act.

“Passage of this water bond will have positive impacts on Californians throughout the state,” said Quinn. “Securing California’s water future has become increasingly challenging and bonds help ensure that we have adequate funding to invest in answering critical needs, such as safe water, sustainable groundwater and drought preparedness. Answering these challenges is more important now than ever before.”

Prop. 68 provides $1.6 billion for water-related projects intended to provide safe drinking water to disadvantaged communities, improve water supply reliability, help implement the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and restore California’s critical watersheds.

ACWA’s Board of Directors unanimously supported both Prop. 68 and the Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018, which will appear on the November ballot. That complementary measure will provide $8.9 billion for safe drinking water, repairs to major infrastructure, SGMA implementation and additional drought solutions.

ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose more than 440 members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit www.acwa.com
