NSS Labs to Develop Its 2018 Web Browser Security Comparative Reports

The Company Invites Industry Engagement to Help Evolve Its Forthcoming Test and Methodology

AUSTIN, Texas, June 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NSS Labs, Inc., a global leader and trusted source for independent, fact-based cybersecurity guidance, today announced that it is developing the next iteration of its Web Browser Security Comparative Test with results expected to be released in late 2018. As part of today’s announcement, the company is also issuing a call for industry engagement from both enterprises and browser vendors to help shape and evolve its upcoming test and accompanying methodology.

In 2017, NSS Labs performed the industry’s first cross-platform test of leading web browsers. To measure browser effectiveness, NSS Labs conducted a series of tests focused on block rate, consistency of protection, and early protection against new threats. Cross-platform tests on desktops and tablets were added to verify security efficacy and consistency across devices. Test results indicate that regardless of platform, browsers are more effective at blocking SEM than phishing attacks. “Web browsers are the primary interface enterprises use to consume information and are the first line of defense against SEM and phishing attacks,” said Jason Brvenik, Chief Technology Officer at NSS Labs. “In our 2017 Web Browser Security Comparative Test, consistency of protection over time against threats ranged from 58.5% to 99%. Our test findings for 2018 will provide valuable insights to help enterprises and consumers understand web browser protection capabilities and potential risk exposure. We encourage enterprises and vendors to share their thoughts with us as we prepare to examine leading web browsers in the market.”
