Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2018 Wisdom of Crowds Enterprise Planning Market Study

4th Annual Report Provides Comprehensive Analysis of Enterprise Planning Priorities and Trends

NASHUA, N.H., June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Wisdom of Crowds® Enterprise Planning Market Study. The annual report is the company’s broad assessment of the enterprise planning market, providing a comprehensive look at user perceptions, intentions, and realities associated with enterprise planning systems.

Enterprise planning covers the methods and processes used by an organization to plan for the impact of various internal and external factors in its future performance and business outcomes. This includes strategic, operational, and financial planning and forecasting. Enterprise planning software are tools that automate these processes, from straightforward spreadsheets to multi-user systems that support collaborative planning and rely on advanced technologies such as in-memory computing.

For each annual study, users of enterprise planning systems contribute their opinion on topics related to their current and planned deployments. In addition, they are asked to prioritize 18 initiatives strategic to enterprise planning, including revenue/demand planning, rolling forecasts, sales and operations planning, product or customer profitability analysis, and others.

The report shows a significant increase in the adoption of enterprise planning software, up to 58 percent in 2018 from 30 percent in 2017. The perceived overall importance of enterprise planning also increased in 2018, with 37 percent of organizations rating it of “critical” importance, up from 28 percent in 2017.

Annual financial budgets remain by far the most important enterprise planning initiative. Headcount, salary, and compensation planning has been steadily gaining in importance and in 2018 is the second-most important enterprise planning initiative.

“We see growing evidence of market maturity, with organizations shifting their emphasis from evaluation and selection and moving more into implementation and deployment,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “The customer-facing functions, such as sales, marketing, and customer service, represent the largest potential adopters of enterprise planning in the next one to two years.”

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Enterprise Planning users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.  To purchase a copy of the 2018 Wisdom of Crowds Enterprise Planning Market Study, visit www.enterpriseplanningreport.com
