Craig McConnon Group launches development of Club Glacier in Luton

Craig McConnon is known for his epic venue designs, recently launching new developments in Northampton and Peterborough. Following the huge success of the Gen:Z launch in Northampton last week, The Craig McConnon Group is prepping a new venue out in Luton. “Club Glacier is inspired by my trip to Secret Solstice where I was fortunate enough to attend a limited gig held actually inside a glacier. I was like, this is so awesome, I have to make this happen.” Of course, the UK's last glaciers melted quite some time ago, so creating the thrilling and unique ambience of the glacier event will take quite some doing.

The Craig McConnon Group is not known to shy away from a challenge and this is just up their alley – or iceberg. “We're looking at creating a translucent blue light with low channel lighting behind fibreglass moulded ceilings and walls,” says a company consultant designer. “We're looking at a variety of materials and design options so we have the right balance of open space and ambience.”

Craig McConnon is known for his spectacular light displays and these won't be compromised by the design of the new club. “The lights are actually hidden so you have no idea they're there until the show gets going, so we're building this element of suspense into the whole structure,” says Craig McConnon. “You just won't know what's next and the idea is to create a design that incorporates channels and chambers where each one morphs in and out of sync in sound and light for total immersion in a total electronic experience.”

The Craig McConnon Group is pulling in a whole range of consultants to come up with the ultimate design that offers all the elements of a glacier experience while not compromising on health and safety. “Of course you've got to consider safety first in every club design,” says Craig McConnon. “Manage all possible risks is our major guideline, but we've got the best people working on this design so I'm confident we're going to get the atmosphere right and at the same time ensure total safety for our guests.”

Craig McConnon is intending to use the new Luton venue mostly for EDM and ambient electronic and promises awesome effects with sound and lighting. “I reckon this place is going to be my playground for a while,” says Craig McConnon. “I've been ripping some vinyl and experimenting with new controllers and especially slowing and speeding up beats to get something really unexpected going.”

The Craig McConnon Group is pulling out the stops to create a venue that thrills all round. “From the moment we walk in, we want wow,” says Craig McConnon. “So before, during, after, it's going to be a place where time just doesn't exist. It's got to be the total experience.” The Club Glacier Project (CGP) will admit limited numbers at a time, striking the balance between crowd culture with its exclusive ambience.

Craig McConnon is said to be working with ambient electronic and mixing it up with trance and electronic dance to create a seamless experience that takes revellers through an epic tour of underground electro awesomeness. “Ambience is where it's at with CGP,” says Craig McConnon. “We want to open it up but at the same time it's got to keep its feel of being something super special and a total surprise in every element. It's going to exclusive, I can say that, but it's got to be for both atmosphere and safety. A place like this is a complex operation and it's got to stay personal.”

The Craig McConnon Group is looking at a six month timeline to get the Luton venue going as not only designers are hard at work. “We've got elements coming in from around Europe,” said a company spokesman. “So that's not just experts but pieces that have to machined as well as leading edge equipment Craig's asked for. Obviously we'll make the best use of the great guys we've got here but we're also looking globally for how we can make this venue pop from the get go.”

Craig McConnon is holding off on accepting bookings for the new venue until the timeline is confirmed, but he's expecting a lot of interest. “This place is ultra unique, so we're expecting some high-end gigs to come in,” he says. “We will open it up but right now our work is getting it super right in terms of total experience. This place is a passion for us right now, so we're giving it all we've got. It's just super cool I've got such an awesome team of creatives on board to make Club Glacier everything it's meant to be.”
