Levyx and Vexata Set New Bar for Performance Benchmarks for Large-Scale Financial Trading Applications

IRVINE, Calif., July 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Levyx Inc., whose high-performance, ultra-low latency data processing software dramatically reduces Big Data infrastructure costs, in conjunction with Vexata, the leader in high-performance NVMe Flash storage systems, revealed record-shattering independent testing results performed by the Securities Technology Analysis Center (STAC®) using the STAC-A3™ benchmarking suite. In one benchmark, the Levyx-Vexata solution achieved 35% more trading simulations per second while using 70% fewer servers*. Levyx and Vexata estimate that the cost of the new solution is just a third of the previous record holder, providing nearly a 300% improvement in price/performance. Levyx had previously set the STAC-A3 mark in 2017.

Working with Vexata is an important next step since it demonstrates the performance-enhancing potential of Levyx’s software in highly-parallelized NVMe flash-based architectures. The underlying NVMe storage layer delivered by Vexata matches Levyx’s persistent dataframe layer resulting in a solution that serves as an ideal alternative to memory for hosting live datasets, all in a bulletproof enterprise-grade system. As NVMe storage systems become more prevalent in Big Data-class environments, Levyx products play a key role as an enabling software layer for all hardware providers capitalizing on the transition to data centric computing in modern datacenters.

Zahid Hussain, CEO of Vexata, said: “When microseconds matter, Levyx’s Xenon accelerated computing platform running on Vexata’s accelerated enterprise storage offers a compelling, high-performance solution for backtesting and risk analytics.”

Peter Lankford, Director of STAC, added: “Across the trading and investment industry, firms are working to turn large amounts of data into profitable strategies through techniques like machine learning. Backtesting potential strategies is a crucial step in that process, and it requires technology that can handle big data at high speed. Quant funds and banks in the STAC Benchmark Council specified the benchmarks in STAC-A3 as an independent way to measure the ability of software and hardware innovations to accelerate backtesting workloads. The fact that Vexata and Levyx submitted a solution for rigorous STAC-A3 testing shows that they are focused on helping financial firms get new strategies to market more quickly.”

"We are very pleased to work with a partner like Vexata to reach another performance milestone," said Reza Sadri, CEO of Levyx. "Introducing our persistent DataFrame layer in a system as fast as the Vexata VX-100F demonstrates the expanding opportunities for Flash-based arrays in large-scale, highly-transactional use cases in areas like financial benchmarking. Now, these high throughput, low latency systems can be used in use cases beyond storage by introducing an enterprise-grade alternative for memory resident data -- however, an alternative that is much denser, simpler to implement, and has all enterprise capabilities of storage networking such as sharability, scalability, and high availibility."

The new benchmark records were set with Apache Spark accelerated by Levyx Xenon™ and utilizing six Intel Xeon SP-based servers connected via Fibre Channel to the Vexata VX-100F Scalable NVMe Flash Array in a combined solution.

Vexata Scalable NVMe Flash Arrays enable the highest performance at market-leading economics for database and analytics workloads, as well as for emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) use cases. Mimicking the approach used by AI and ML frameworks that achieve acceleration using GPUs, the Vexata arrays feature hardware accelerators that enable nearly 20x higher performance than existing all-flash arrays that use traditional storage architectures.

The Levyx Xenon platform is widely used in the financial services industry for accelerating backtesting and risk-management workloads. Levyx’s risk analytics acceleration platform significantly speeds up the validation of trading algorithms and strategies leading to lower deployment costs and execution times, while improving time to revenues.

* Performance in the STAC-A3.β1.SWEEP.SPEED2.BEST benchmark compared to the previous record holder (SUT ID:  HPAT171029).
