Plant Prefab Completes New Prefabricated Residence in Sebastopol

3 module, 1,300 square foot home installed in one day

RIALTO, Calif., July 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plant Prefab, a leading custom home design and prefabrication company, completed the installation of its latest residential project in Sebastopol, California yesterday, highlighting a building system that allows the construction of custom homes faster with less cost and construction waste than similar site-built homes.

Designed by LivingHomes, one of the top sustainable design firms in the nation, the Plant Prefab-built single-family home was installed in one day. With 1,300 square feet of living space, the LEED Platinum-standard LivingHomes C6P includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms. All modules were constructed at Plant Prefab’s 62,000 square foot facility in Rialto, California and shipped to the build site. Site work was performed while the home was undergoing construction, saving substantial build time and mitigating neighborhood disruption.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, $556 billion was spent on residential construction as of April this year, with roughly $285 billion allotted to new, residential construction. Plant Prefab is addressing this massive market opportunity by producing higher quality homes 50 percent faster, at lower cost and with less waste than traditional, site-based construction. Given increasing construction challenges such as labor shortages, rising costs, extended timelines and neighborhood disruption, Plant Prefab is providing a time and cost-effective solution for high-quality, sustainable, custom home construction that targets the growing urban infill market.

“Building high quality, healthy, sustainable custom homes far faster and with less cost than traditional, site-based construction is at the heart of what we do,” said Steve Glenn, founder and CEO of Plant Prefab. “We want to make the process of building a custom home easier and stress-free.”

Plant Prefab is the first home factory in the nation focused on sustainable construction, materials, processes and operations. Its homes are built in ways that minimize the negative impact of development on energy, water, resources and indoor air quality. The modules that comprise this home came to the site over 90 percent complete with all finished electrical and plumbing, millwork and appliances installed, paint and exterior cladding, and even tiles in the baths and kitchen.

Plant Prefab has been active in the Sonoma/Napa area, having most recently installed a home in Napa in May. Additionally, Plant Prefab is helping victims of the 2017 Napa-area wildfires overcome severe contractor shortages due to the wildfire aftermath. Plant Prefab provides special pricing options to victims of the wildfires, including free initial site assessments, 50 percent off feasibility services, $5,000 in free upgrades and 5 percent off design/administrative fees.

This latest collaboration between LivingHomes and Plant Prefab marks the first install since LivingHomes was featured on the cover of the May/June issue of Dwell magazine for a residence the company designed for Will Arnett, star of Arrested Development, LEGO Batman, and Flaked. The project also received a Housing Award at the Los Angeles Building Council (LABC) Architectural Awards on June 1.

Recent data indicates that median home prices in Sebastopol are expected to rise 6.6 percent over the next 12 months. According to Glenn, people hoping to live in Sebastopol crave high-quality homes that are healthy, energy efficient, use sustainable building materials and are of the highest quality, but the available supply of construction companies in the Bay area to build these homes is constrained and expensive.

“We work closely with our clients to ensure they have the home they’re dreaming of, and create that home with them in conjunction with their own architects or designs they can select from our architect partners.”

In 2016, Plant Prefab opened a 62,000 square foot facility in Rialto, secured $3.4 million in Series A funding led by Obvious Ventures and shipped multiple homes throughout California. Plant Prefab’s next two homes will be installed in Burlingame and Los Gatos in the coming months.
