HSINCHU, Taiwan, Aug. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The replacement of fuel cars with electric vehicles has become an irreversible trend. eTreego, a startup that is poised to enter the huge South East Asia market and founded by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), announced its car and scooter charging pile— built with advanced charging control modules— at Automechanic Philippines, the leading auto aftermarket parts trade event, held from August 16th to August 18th in Manila, the Philippines. In compliance with four different specifications from Europe, the United States and Japan, eTreego’s charging pile features a temperature range of -40℃ to 70℃ and is a total charging solution that has taken the trade show by storm with vendors and buyers making enthusiastic inquiries.
Major countries in Europe, and Taiwan, are committed to end the selling of fuel cars by 2040, a goal that has stimulated the sales of electric vehicles worldwide. Figures from ITRI indicate that in 2017, a total of 2.66 million cars were sold in the global electric vehicle market, with sales estimated to grow by 19% and reaching 3.17 million this year. As well, 549,000 electric scooters are expected to be sold across the world in 2018, boasting a 64% increase in sales from 333,000 units last year. As Asia accounts for 76.3% of the global electric scooter market, regions in South East Asia, with scooters as the major mode of transportation, show promising potential for growth.

A startup of ITRI, eTreego’s charging module is crucial to the charging technology for electric vehicles. Products by eTreego include charging control module, charger, charging station and energy management, together providing a total solution for the charging of electric vehicles and scooters. The advantage of the products includes its compliance with four major international standards by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Japan’s CHAdeMO and China’s GB; furthermore, eTreego’s products operate in a wide temperature range of between -40℃ to 70℃, which is more superior than the rest of the products on the market that only work between 0℃ to 60℃.
According to Chien, while serving with ITRI, the eTreego team took part in formulating the charging standard for electric cars and scooters in Taiwan. In 2010, eTreego created the first charging pile for electric cars in Taiwan for the collaborative project between the Taichung government and Yulon Nissan. Currently, more than half of the electric vehicle charging piles in Taiwan are built by eTreego.
As of now, eTreego’s clients including Yulon Motor and China Motor in Taiwan, and in the foreign market that covers the Greater China region, are in discussions on collaborations and supply in place with international carmakers and related charger vendors. At the same time, eTreego is working with many scooter manufacturers in Taiwan on charging products that comply with the standard of the electric scooter charging industry. In addition to the available charging systems, eTreego is also actively developing an all-in-one network system that is small and allows bi-directional charging, wireless charging and quick charging, to provide a total charging solution for the electric vehicle market in anticipation of booming business opportunities.
In 2017, a total of 280 vendors from 11 countries took part in Automechanic Philippines that attracted more than 7,000 attendees.
