MONTREAL, Aug. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Mobilia Foundation announced today that it is donating $100,000 in furniture to three organizations in Quebec and Ontario, giving many Canadian families an opportunity to enhance their quality of life. The organizations chosen for 2018 are Carrefour Familial Hochelaga in Montreal, Helping With Furniture in Ottawa and the Red Door Family Shelter in Toronto.
Created in 2017 in on the occasion of Mobilia’s 50th anniversary celebration, the Mobilia Foundation seeks to help disadvantaged families improve their living space by making furniture donations to social service and community organizations.
“We are very happy to be able to make our own special contribution to enhancing the quality of life for families in need by allowing them to enjoy a warmer and more inviting living space,” said Mobilia president Johannes Kau. “Furniture is such an important part of our daily lives. It creates a comfortable environment and fosters togetherness. We want to create productive and permanent partnerships by getting involved in projects that bring about concrete change in the community,” he added.
Montreal: Carrefour Familial Hochelaga, for family well-being
The Carrefour Familial Hochelaga has been providing families from the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district with a sense of belonging since 1976. Their services include a family centre, a short-term shelter for fathers with young children and a back-to-school program for parents.
“With this furniture donation, the Mobilia Foundation will transform our living spaces thanks to a major redesign of our environment” explained Sébastien Beaudet, the organization’s managing director. “We are dedicated to helping individuals, groups and families take charge of their lives and build their self-esteem. This generous contribution is consistent with the values of Carrefour Familial Hochelaga in that it will create a more inspiring and stimulating living environment.”
Among the areas that will be revamped is a huge multi-functional living space in the basement that includes a meeting room and sewing area. The living room and play area for fathers and children at the Maison Oxygène Montréal, one of the main resources of the Carrefour Familial Hochelaga, will also get a makeover thanks to a paint job and the smart redesign of the space by the Mobilia team.
Ottawa: Helping With Furniture
Helping With Furniture is a charitable organization that distributes furniture and household goods to families who are beginning a new life in Ottawa, especially refugees and new immigrants as well as those leaving situations of abuse and those struggling with mental illness or at risk of homelessness. Mobilia will contribute to the Full Circle project, a complete makeover undertaken by Shazia Shah, an Interior Decorating student at Algonquin College, in conjunction with Nathalie Maione, founder and president of Helping With Furniture. “We are so happy to be working with Mobilia on this project that will help a family build a new life,” said Shazia Shah. “With the help of the Foundation we will be able to create a really inspirational home from scratch, which is so fundamental to making a new start in life.”
Toronto: Red Door Family Shelter
The mission of the Red Door Family Shelter is to end homelessness for each family that comes through their doors by providing a safe, temporary refuge and critical services to support them in healing, rebuilding their lives and integrating back into a community. “We are very happy to have the support of the Mobilia team for our Moving Program,” said Executive Director Carol Latchford. “By providing furniture to families, Mobilia is giving them practical tools to rebuild their lives after homelessness.”
In partnership with the Moving Program, the Mobilia Foundation will supply furniture to families depending on their specific needs, which will be assessed in advance by workers at the Red Door Family Shelter.
