BARRIE, Ontario, Sept. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As part of ongoing efforts to enhance overall electricity system reliability in Barrie, Alectra Utilities is investing $8 million to modernize the grid that currently provides service to approximately 55,000 homes and businesses in the municipality.
The two-phase project, which runs along Livingstone Street, is replacing and upgrading pole capacity that connects the Livingstone Municipal Station (MS) with Little Lake MS in anticipation of new growth in the area. The multi-million dollar investment is part of an infrastructure upgrade commitment undertaken by the utility that included, in the project’s first phase, the building of a new 44 kilovolt (kV) MS with four 13.8kV distribution lines. The second phase is currently underway with an expected completion date in late November.
Alectra Utilities’ distribution system in Barrie is facing significant pressures due to anticipated growth - including the Cundles and Little Lake commercial developments. In addition, contingency back up for other existing stations in the area is required to enhance overall system reliability.
Alectra Utilities is continuously investing in electrical infrastructure while supporting growth and providing safe, reliable and sustainable power for customers in the communities served by the utility. Learn more at www.alectrautilities.com.
