MomsTO Supports New Moms with Wine Festival

TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The second annual celebration of MomsTO’s controversial “A Very Mommy Wine Festival” takes place in Toronto on September 13. Last year, the event sparked a heated debate about mixing babies and booze. The festival attracted hundreds of moms on maternity leave who came to socialize with “Babes on the Hips, Wine on the Lips.” Critics have attacked the event for encouraging a culture of alcohol consumption among mothers on maternity leave.

MomsTO founder Alana Kayfetz argues these criticisms are a form of mommy-shaming. “They’re just another example of the pressure put uniquely on mothers to be perfect. If this was a beer festival marketed to men where babies were welcome, it would be celebrated, it would be revered," founder Alana Kayfetz explains.

Ricarda’s Mediterranean Restaurant will host the event from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hundreds of moms on maternity leave, with their new babies in tow, will attend to socialize and enjoy wines and bubbly from around the globe. MomsTO’s goal is to redefine maternity leave by bringing together millennial moms and giving them a safe and enjoyable place to connect and celebrate motherhood.

In addition to plenty of wine and bubbly, attendees of the wine festival will have access to mom-centred vendors, as well as learning and interactive lounges. The MomBoss Lounge will feature women who are leaders in their industry, like Nikita Stanley and Aleksandra Jassem, authors and founders of The Rebel Mamas. The Educate Lounge will host experts like Dr. Jack Newman, a renowned breastfeeding educator, along with sleep consultants, and postpartum care specialists. The Fun & Hands On Lounge will include League of Moms founder Ronit Soroksy, and Natalie Preddie, a parent and travel enthusiast.

Since launched in 2017, MomsTO has garnered a following of more than 6,000 moms. Founder Alana Kayfetz hopes to soon expand the brand to cities across North America. “We are going to leave our mark by ensuring no mom is left behind in the trials and tribulations of motherhood. We are in this together because there is truly no sisterhood like motherhood,” says Kayfetz.
