Plant Prefab Completes Oakland Home Install in One Day

The six module home was built in under two months and shipped in one day, 90 percent complete

RIALTO, Calif., Sept. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In less time than it took to complete a full day of work, Plant Prefab, a leading custom home design and prefabrication company, completed the installation of its latest residential project in Oakland, California.

The Ocean Avenue home in Oakland’s Golden Gate neighborhood was designed as a modern barnhouse by Lance Lowrey of GAEA Architecture Design, and built by Plant Prefab. The 3-bed, 2-bath home features two stories and 1,740-square feet of living space. All six of the home’s modules were constructed at Plant Prefab’s 62,000 square foot facility in Rialto, California and shipped to the build site. Site work was performed while the home was undergoing construction, saving substantial build time and mitigating neighborhood disruption.

“More and more people are interested in building their own homes in cities,” said Steve Glenn, founder and CEO of Plant Prefab. “Custom home construction has been a difficult process and it’s getting harder due to the rising costs of land, labor, materials and fees -- and the increasing difficulty of finding available construction labor. We’re focused on making the process dramatically faster, less expensive and more reliable.”

Glenn added, “We build homes that feature better indoor air quality and use far less energy, water, and other resources than typical homes.”

All Plant Prefab homes are installed in a matter of hours. Post-installation site work, including seam stitching, electrical work and landscape are typically completed within the following month or two, allowing homeowners to move in faster than they would with a traditional build.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, $556 billion was spent on residential construction as of April this year, with roughly $285 billion allotted to new, residential construction. Given increasing construction challenges such as labor shortages, rising costs, extended timelines and neighborhood disruption, Plant Prefab’s homes, which are, on average, completed 50 percent faster, provide a time and cost-effective solution for high-quality, sustainable, custom home construction that targets the growing urban infill market.

Zillow estimates that median home prices in Oakland will rise 7.5 percent over the next 12 months. By customizing a prefabricated model, those hoping to live in Oakland can achieve the high-quality and sustainable homes they crave without the burden of costly expenses incurred through traditional building methods. “Our customers are able to attain the home of their dreams,” said Glenn. “We work closely with our clients to create healthy, energy efficient homes built in conjunction with their architect or a design selected from one of our partners. We want to make the process of home building as stress-free as we can.”
