MobiledgeX and Deutsche Telekom Show Edge Live in Germany

At Edge Computing Congress, Berlin, MobiledgeX, publicly demonstrated its ability to bring the Cloud closer to users by placing 3rd party workloads into live telecom edge based on end user location

MENLO PARK, Calif., Sept. 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last week, at Edge Computing Congress Berlin, Telekom Deutschland GmbH (TDG), the German subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom (DT), continued to display the group’s leadership in edge computing by demonstrating the dynamic placement of workloads in their live network.

MobiledgeX, founded by Deutsche Telekom to focus on enabling developer access to edge resources, publicly demonstrated, for the first time, their software services that enable automatic placement and management of third-party workloads into the most appropriate edge locations, based on end user location. As a result of the work, MobiledgeX received the “Best Operator Award for Edge Computing Development” at the event.

“MobiledgeX is focused on solving the developer problem, on behalf of all mobile operators and edge,” stated Sunay Tripathi, CTO of MobiledgeX. “This starts with ensuring that applications run as closely to the end user as possible, without developer intervention––and I am happy to announce the first public demonstration of our system, running on the TDG live network in Germany.”

“Deutsche Telekom has been a leading industry proponent of edge computing to enable future industry growth. We now see the first real results of these efforts with MobiledgeX and Telekom Deutschland jointly showing the automatic placement of 3rd party edge applications in our live German network. It is a first step and we look forward to more exciting developments to come,” said Alex Choi, Senior Vice President Research and Technology Innovation, Deutsche Telekom.
