Hurco Celebrated 50th Anniversary at Record-Breaking Manufacturing Technology Show

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hurco Companies, Inc., continued its momentum as a technology leader at the largest industry trade show in North America, the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 10-15. Hurco, Milltronics, and Takumi, the three brands of computerized machine tools in the Hurco brand portfolio, occupied approximately 16,000 square feet of exhibit space, and all three booths experienced unprecedented activity at the 32nd installment of IMTS, which broke all previous records for attendance, exhibition space, and number of exhibitors, according to the Association for Manufacturing Technology, the owner of IMTS.

Greg Volovic, President of Hurco Companies, Inc., said, “We just had an outstanding show this year. For Hurco, our brand positioning as a technology leader seemed to resonate with IMTS visitors as a higher percentage of our orders at the show were for our more technologically advanced machines, such as 5-axis and higher performance VMXi machines. Additionally, all three new models that we introduced at IMTS were sold at the show.”

Hurco dedicated an entire quadrant of its booth space at IMTS to automation to demonstrate the technological benefits of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) with the Hurco CNC machines communicating with collaborative robots, multi-axis serial robots, and pallet systems. The automation exhibit was a collaborative effort between Hurco and Erowa, Universal Robots, FANUC robots, Online Resources, and Industrial Controls & Automation.

“The increased traffic from the automation booth and our 50th anniversary celebrations helped us attract a higher percentage of people who are new to Hurco. The automation quadrant generated so much excitement that people waited in line up to two hours to experience demonstrations that showcased how the Hurco control natively collaborates with robots and peripheral devices to reach an unprecedented level of automation for the high mix/low volume job shop environment. Hurco also showcased the 2nd generation of its 3D print head adapter, launched the new generation of control software for its turning centers, introduced the 3D solid model import feature, and was selected as the exclusive computerized machine tool brand to illustrate Industry 4.0 and MT Connect at the Emerging Technology Center pavilion. Takumi and Milltronics also experienced increased traffic at IMTS with Takumi tripling the number of IMTS leads this year compared to their first IMTS in 2016. At the Milltronics booth, the ability to integrate mobile technology and machine tools in the cloud with the introduction of Digital Setup Assistant (DSA) generated an increased level of interest,” said Volovic.

Takumi launched two new categories at IMTS 2018: 5-axis machines and SL slant-bed lathes. The Takumi 5-axis U800 captured visitors’ interest with its 5-axis simultaneous cutting demonstration of a 20" tall replica of the famous Venus De Milo sculpture provided in partnership with Cimquest using Mastercam 5-axis toolpaths. Additional booth events included a hybrid manufacturing process demonstration using a Takumi H12 in partnership with 3D Hybrid Solutions, and visitors learned how to “make more chips” with the Takumi Fanuc H control in partnership with Greenleaf Corporation.

In addition to unveiling DSA, Milltronics introduced the new VM5020EZ CNC machine and two other time-saving control products at IMTS: Milltronics ChipBoss TM Control Software and Bi-Directional Turning Cycle.

“IMTS was the perfect venue to celebrate with all of our loyal customers and all of the people who have been a part of Hurco’s success over the last 50 years. It was fitting that our year-long 50th Anniversary celebration culminated at IMTS. As the inventor of conversational programming, our commitment to develop sophisticated technology that is easy to use in order to help our customers be more productive and more profitable continues to drive innovation at Hurco. On behalf of the entire team at Hurco, thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate this milestone in our company’s history,” said Volovic.
