Canada’s national nuclear laboratory discusses wide-range of speciality services to support sustainability of the global nuclear reactor fleet with world’s leading utilities
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 03, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, shared the launch of CNL’s Centre for Reactor Sustainability (CRS) with utilities from China, Korea, Japan, the United States and Canada, representing more than half of the world’s nuclear power plants, during a meeting of the 21st Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference in San Francisco. The initiative brings together CNL’s broad research capabilities in support of the sustainable, long-term operations of the world’s fleet of more than 400 nuclear power reactors.

Today, nuclear reactors around the world safely, cleanly and reliably provide over 10 per cent of global electricity. The Centre for Reactor Sustainability will help make nuclear power plants even more efficient and reliable, support reactor life extension and long term operation, and enable plant modernization through innovative technologies and inspection services. CRS will leverage CNL’s specialized knowledge and experience to provide services to utilities and their suppliers in five key research areas:
- Aging Management, including Post-Irradiation Examination
- Fuel Characterization
- Operational Support and Failure Response
- Chemistry Control, Monitoring and Optimization
- Specialized Inspection and Maintenance Tooling
