ARCOS unveils first-of-its-kind mobile app for utility workers

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ARCOS® LLC has released a mobile version of the ARCOS Crew Manager® software to give utility field supervisors and crews a real-time view into the location and availability of crews, vehicles, and equipment from their hand-held devices, so workers can improve collaboration and communication during construction, maintenance, and restoration work. This real-time view will save time and money for supervisors and crews who want to make decisions in the field about the availability of resources as circumstances unfold or change.

Utility managers turn to Crew Manager for daily operations and unplanned events to better assign and track resources. Managers also use Crew Manager to get mutual assistance crews on site faster, which reduces restoration time.

“Ordinarily, Crew Manager runs as a 70-inch ‘virtual board’ inside an operations center, so managers can track crews by job classification, staging area, elapsed-time worked and status; things like shifts, equipment and callouts appear as movable icons and managers can visualize needs,” says Ted Schneider, chief technology officer for ARCOS. “In an ops center, managers could be fielding questions from executives or moving and analyzing crews to gauge restoration costs.

“In the field, workers need a slightly different tool to do their job,” adds Schneider. “So we simplified the look and feel of ARCOS Crew Manager, which employees can now download as part of the ARCOS Mobile app. Field supervisors or linemen can see what work tickets crews are working and who is working on an adjacent circuit.”

With the Crew Manager mobile application, field supervisors can see a crew’s makeup by skill set and how close the crew is to a job. Field personnel are often in a position to see (and react to something) on the job that operations personnel can’t see or haven’t planned for. When that happens, workers can use the Crew Manager app to make a faster decision. The mobile application gives field supervisors and crews a way to prioritize work based on the availability of different types of equipment, crews and vehicles.

The Crew Manager mobile application also gives field personnel the same, real-time view of the location and availability of resources that managers in the operations center see. Users can download the new application from either the Android or iOS App Stores.
