Aricent Launches SDN-enabled Virtualized Access Solution on Edgecore Networks Open OLT Platforms for Disaggregated Access

Aricent SDvAS on best of breed hardware enables NEPs address Next Generation Broadband Access challenges with Disaggregated architectures and Network Functions Virtualization

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Aricent, a global design and engineering company, today announced the launch of SDN-enabled virtualized Access Solution, SDvAS, a portfolio of software frameworks enabling the next generation broadband access networks, and the availability of the SDvAS Virtual OLT (vOLT) framework pre-integrated on the Open OLT platforms from Edgecore Networks. Aricent SDvAS enables equipment vendors to offer the agility and cost benefits of SDN and NFV, with support for disaggregated architectures with industry standard Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) platforms.

Available with flexible source code based licensing models, Aricent SDvAS portfolio of software frameworks enables support for SD-WAN Universal CPEs (uCPE), Virtualized OLTs (vOLT), Aricent Fast Path Accelerator (FPA) based Virtual Router (vRouter), Virtual CPE (vCPE), Virtualized BNGs (vBNG), and the SDN applications for network service provisioning and assurance. SDvAS enables flexible and scalable deployment options with support for industry standard ODM platforms, VNFs deployable as VMs and Containers on x86 compute nodes with hardware acceleration offload support, and VNF life cycle management and orchestration by Aricent MANO.

Aricent SDvAS – Virtual OLT software framework supports disaggregated OLT architectures based on the ONF R-CORD model. Leveraging the ONF R-CORD VOLTHA framework and OpenOLT drivers, Aricent SDvAS enables flexible vOLT deployments on Whitebox disaggregated OLTs as an SDN controller application or as a VNF on x86 compute node. Partnering with Edgecore Networks, Aricent’s SDvAS on the Edgecore ASXvOLT16 Open OLT platform enables rapid realization of disaggregated, SDN-enabled XGS-PON OLT deployments. Aricent SDvAS would also support the Edgecore GPON OLT platforms, the ASGvOLT32 and ASGvOLT64.

“Edgecore has been working closely with leading service providers worldwide, and with the OCP, ONF and TIP communities to offer disaggregated hardware products that enable open network deployments for broadband access, edge computing, mobile backhaul, and edge switching use cases,” said Mark Basham, VP Business Development, Edgecore. “We are pleased to have Aricent in our partner ecosystem and their solutions available on Edgecore open networking platforms,” added Basham.

“Aricent SDvAS portfolio of Software frameworks builds on Aricent Networking, 5G, Edge Compute and MANO, that enable NEPs to stay ahead of the continuous technology evolution curve,” said N. Mohan Rangan, Chief Engineering Officer at Aricent. “Our partnership with Edgecore Networks accelerates the product build cycles for NEPs with the availability of these pre-integrated frameworks on Edgecore Open Networking platforms.”

Aricent’s SDvAS has been built on its ISS control plane that has enabled NEPs to build DSLAMs, OLTs, Carrier Ethernet Aggregation, Service Edge, Mobile Backhaul and Packet Optical Transport equipment. The solution offers feature rich, robust networking technology to deliver a consistent service.
