Boulder-based Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence Among the First to Adopt .CHARITY Domain

SPAN to use new SPAN.charity URL to connect with more donors

Boulder, Colo., Oct. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A Boulder-based nonprofit is one of the first organizations to adopt the new .CHARITY domain, which became available to the public Sept 19. The Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN)—a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth and children—and can now be found online at www.SPAN.charity. The domain name is provided by Denver-based domain registrar, Name.com.

SPAN’s Development Director Mary Pierce noted SPAN plans on using the new domain name for special fundraising projects and to better track direct website visits. “If SPAN runs an ad in the newspaper directing to SPAN.charity and sees a surge in traffic, we can see just how many visits that ad generated,” said Pierce.

SPAN’s current website, www.safehousealliance.org, will continue to serve the function of assisting the public, while SPAN.charity will provide a new tool to help the organization better connect with donors.

In 2017, SPAN received 9,121 crisis hotline calls and their shelter served 285 adults and 67 children for a total of 9,273 nights stayed. Executive Director Anne Tapp says that the .CHARITY domain will help them understand how they can do a better job fulfilling their mission.

“I’ve been fortunate to be involved in SPAN’s work for nearly 27 years,” said Tapp. “And part of what keeps me excited about being here is that we’re always pushing, we’re always trying to figure out what’s a better way of doing what we’re doing. We are so grateful to Name.com for providing us with this domain to continue to enhance our relationship with both current and potential donors,” she added.
