TREB Applauds Provinical Government Declining Municipal Request for Authority to Levy Additional Revenue Tools

TORONTO, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Toronto Real Estate Board issues the following statement.

The Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) applauds the provincial government for taking a strong stand in support of home buyers and sellers by declining municipal requests for the authority to levy additional revenue tools, including municipal land transfer taxes, the latest attempt was in York Region.

TREB has continuously spoken out against the use of land transfer taxes as an unwise and unfair method for municipalities to raise revenue. We are encouraged that the provincial government recognizes the pressures facing consumers and the potential negative impacts of municipal land transfer taxes.  TREB will continue to speak out to protect the interests of home buyers and sellers.
