Washington, D.C., Nov. 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Experts from the American Institutes for Research (AIR) will present at several sessions during the annual Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) research conference, being held November 8-10 in Washington, D.C. APPAM is a professional organization dedicated to improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis and education.
AIR experts will present on a variety of topics, mainly in the areas of education and workforce development, including educator recruitment, hiring and evaluation; school accountability; credit recovery; student outcomes and equity; job opportunities for people with disabilities; and social and emotional learning.
During the conference, Garima Siwach, an economic researcher at AIR, will receive APPAM’s PhD Dissertation Award, which recognizes emergent scholars in the field. Dr. Siwach, who earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Albany, State University of New York, is being honored for her dissertation, Impact of Employment Barriers on Individuals with Criminal Records: An Econometric Evaluation of Criminal Background Checks in New York.
Dr. Siwach’s work at AIR focuses on research and evaluation of employment-related interventions for marginalized populations, including those with disabilities, criminal convictions, and individuals from low-income households, across domestic and international fields. She will be honored at an awards breakfast on Friday, November 9.
This is APPAM’s 40th annual Fall Research Conference and has the theme “Evidence for Action: Encouraging Innovation and Improvement.” It is being held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
