State-of-the-Art Cellular System Installed at The Wharf in Washington, D.C.

Connectivity Wireless Solutions provides future-ready connectivity for District Wharf visitors and residents

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Developers PN Hoffman and Madison Marquette announce that The Wharf’s state-of-the-art cellular enhancement system is now fully operational. The fiber-rich system powers the nation’s four largest wireless service providers to bring premier mobile connectivity to residents and visitors throughout the mile-long, mixed-use neighborhood.

Spanning 4.2 million square feet, the solution was designed to support the unique functions of the community by enabling an end-to-end connected environment for visitors to explore and enjoy the nation’s largest waterfront development:

"At The Wharf, we built a neighborhood and world-class destination on the social pillars of food, music, and water – experiences that are built for sharing with friends and family," said Shawn Seaman, Executive Vice President and Principal of PN Hoffman. "For more than a year, we’ve worked closely with Simplifi and CWS to ensure all guests and residents experience a seamless connection throughout The Wharf neighborhood. We are especially excited to unveil this enhanced system as we head into the busy holiday season.”

District Wharf sees millions of visitors each year. As the holidays approach, the distributed antenna system (DAS) affords thousands of visitors and shoppers the ability to enhance and share their experiences through reliable use of their mobile devices and apps; whether Instagramming concerts at one of The Wharf’s many indoor and outdoor music venues, Snapchatting from the piers at the upcoming Holiday Boat Parade, or calling or booking online reservations for nearby restaurants and hotels.

"We are thrilled to host this value-added amenity for retail, restaurant and hotel tenants and guests who are anticipating and accustomed to a next-generation tech environment to market their services and connect to consumers," said Peter Cole, Chief Development/Asset Management Officer of Madison Marquette.

A further testament to their commitment to supporting a “next-generation tech environment,” a District Wharf app is available to help guests make the most of their visit. Users can access live feeds and event announcements, browse the business directory, and view real-time parking and transportation updates. The app is available for download on Apple and Android devices.

About the System

The neutral-host DAS solution, engineered and installed by Connectivity Wireless Solutions with ownership and operations provided by Simplifi Wireless Group, has all four wireless carriers on-air; thus, ensuring each of their customers experience excellent cellular service indoors, outdoors and in the underground parking garage.

The Corning ONE™ system comprises seven miles of fiber and leverages 762 antennas, 150 remotes and 18 iDAS and oDAS sectors to enable seamless voice coverage and unparalleled data capacity and connection speeds for mobile device users.

With a 1.15-million-square-foot expansion planned in Phase 2 of The Wharf, the DAS will scale to provide coverage throughout the new buildings, garage, marina, and common spaces.

“We love working with partners like PN Hoffman and Madison Marquette who recognize the importance of providing the best possible wireless experience for their customers,” said Greg Jacobs, CEO and founder at Connectivity Wireless. “The modular, fiber-deep system was designed to support the ever-growing wireless demands of mobile-device users today and to provide the optimal connected environment for those who will ‘live, work and play’ at District Wharf in the future.”
