Former Planet and Microsoft Executive Karthik Govindhasamy Named COO by Diamanti

Technology leader oversaw one of the largest cloud-based commercial Kubernetes installations in production  -- will now scale engineering and operations at container infrastructure solutions pioneer

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Diamanti, creators of the first bare-metal platform purpose-built for containerized applications, today announced the appointment of Karthik Govindhasamy as Chief Operations Officer (COO). Govindhasamy brings two decades of engineering leadership experience to Diamanti. Previously he served as CTO and EVP Engineering at earth imaging leader, Planet, whose production environment includes one of the world’s largest cloud-based commercial deployments of Kubernetes and containers.

“Having overseen a 50-thousand node Kubernetes environment that processed several terabytes of image processing data every day at Planet, I experienced firsthand the transformative impact of containers on legacy infrastructure,” said Govindhasamy. “From my vantage point as an early adopter of containers at enterprise scale, Diamanti is uniquely positioned to accelerate container adoption as the only container infrastructure that addresses the full stack requirements -- including networking and storage -- optimized for bare metal, x86 architecture.”

“Govindhasamy’s experience with containers and Kubernetes at massive scale, combined with his end-to-end experience creating hardware and software products at brands like Microsoft and Nokia makes him a perfect executive to lead the next phase of engineering at Diamanti,” said Tom Barton, CEO at Diamanti. “Microservices and containers have become entrenched, and now IT departments are scrambling to transition from legacy virtual machine infrastructure to support CI/CD and production Kubernetes and container environments. We’re thrilled that Govindhasamy is joining Diamanti to serve the enterprises that are making big strategic bets on containers and cloud-native development and need a full-stack infrastructure solution to accelerate their deployments.”

In its recent Futurescape report, analyst firm IDC forecast that by 2022, 90 percent of all new applications will feature microservices architectures. Diamanti serves IT departments that need to transition from legacy infrastructure built around virtual machines -- to modern, container infrastructure to support the new networking and storage requirements of microservices and distributed computing.

Diamanti’s D10 bare-metal container platform gives infrastructure architects, IT operations, and application owners the speed, simplicity, efficiency, and control they need to run stateful containerized applications at scale. With open-source Docker and Kubernetes fully integrated, together with purpose-built hardware and container-granular control, the Diamanti D10 is a proven full container stack that deploys in minutes.

Diamanti was named a Gartner “Cool Vendor” for its bare-metal container platform, and Database Trends and Applications has named Diamanti a 2018 “Trend-Setting Product in Data Management.” Other product accolades for Diamanti include being named a CRN “10 Coolest Cloud Storage Startups” and being included in Forbes “10 New Product Categories Created Exclusively for the Container Era.”
