Calian Health Diversifies Customers with Health Wins Valued at More than $10M

OTTAWA, Nov. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY) reports that its health services team has further diversified its customer base with new contract wins with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

“Police, security and corrections customers have been turning to Calian Health's on-site health solutions because they are a win-win. They save the customer time and money while providing better health outcomes,” said Gordon McDonald, Director, Calian Health. “We’re very pleased to report that customers are seeing the significant benefits of these turnkey health solutions. Above and beyond the cost savings and improved health results, these services help to reduce the strain on public resources such as emergency medical services and emergency rooms.”

Calian Health recently secured a new contract with CBSA, to provide turnkey health solutions at a site in Laval, Quebec. The contract comes after the service line recently re-won a similar contract to supply on-site health solutions at a CBSA holding centre in Toronto. The two contracts have terms of up to five years when including optional extensions. Combined, they have an aggregate value of more than $10 million over the full periods.

Calian Health is pleased to report that it is now also successfully delivering a contract for Edmonton Police Service after winning the contract earlier this year. Calian’s team of advanced-care paramedics is providing continuous, 24-7 on-site health services to the customer, leveraging technology and a full scope of practice. For Edmonton Police Service, the model is more cost-effective while providing consistent, meaningful care and sharply reducing the need for costly hospital transports and off-site supervision while reducing the overall risk profile of its operation.

Earlier this year, Calian acquired psychological services company Priority One, based in Calgary, which expanded Calian Health’s mental health services footprint with regulatory and law enforcement agencies across the country.

“I am always happy to see further customer diversification – a key pillar within our four pillar growth strategy,” stated Kevin Ford, President and CEO, Calian. “Calian Health has evolved and diversified immensely from its early days of delivering a single contract for the Department of National Defence. Today, we continue to deliver superior-quality physical and mental health services to the Canadian Forces, as well as for scores of other customers including corrections institutions, the RCMP, police services, Veterans Affairs Canada and mining and energy companies.”
