New Book “Couchbase On Kubernetes” Discusses How to Autonomously Run and Manage a Complex Distributed Database On Kubernetes

Newly-published book, in conjunction with other recently-released book, “SQL++ For SQL Users,” aims to establish best practices for next-generation databases and their query language

SEATTLE, Dec. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KubeCon +CloudNativeCon North America, Booth S12 -- Couchbase, creator of the world’s first Engagement Database, today announced the publication and immediate availability of Couchbase on Kubernetes: Autonomously Run and Manage a Complex Distributed Database on Kubernetes.

Authored by Couchbase Director of Product Management Anil Kumar, the book details how to autonomously run and manage Couchbase on Kubernetes to reduce complexity, human error and manual management of database services. As Kubernetes continues to gain momentum there are a number of roadblocks that can hinder progress, and Kumar’s book helps readers overcome obstacles including high operational costs, vendor lock-in and delayed time to market.

“Kubernetes has the ability to streamline operations and provide a more efficient consumption of resources and cloud portability, but to date it has really only been accessible to highly technical users,” said Kumar. “The aim of my book is to explain simply and clearly how less technical users can get started with Kubernetes, and how to build on basic Kubernetes resource and controller concepts with Couchbase Autonomous Operator, the first NoSQL autonomous operator for Kubernetes.”

The book explains:

  • How users can leverage Couchbase Autonomous Operator to extend the Kubernetes API to create, configure and manage instances of complex stateful applications
  • How to leverage Kubernetes across multi-cloud deployments
  • How to deliver automated operations and cloud-agnostic deployments with unmatched agility and flexibility through Couchbase Autonomous Operator

In addition, Don Chamberlin, co-inventor of SQL, recently published SQL++ For SQL Users: a Tutorial in collaboration with Couchbase. Earlier this year, Couchbase launched Couchbase N1QL for Analytics, the first commercial implementation of the SQL++ query language.

“SQL++ has been a decade in the making, and is essential to leverage semi-structured data for analytics,” said Chamberlin.”It addresses gaps in SQL’s ability to query JSON and maintains the syntax of SQL for ease of use. This book details best practices for the next generation query language, which combines the benefits of SQL with the flexibility of JSON.”

Both N1QL and Couchbase Autonomous Operator represent major advancements in the industry and are helping to shape the future of databases and query languages. Attendees of KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America this week can meet with Couchbase to receive a free copy of Couchbase on Kubernetes at booth S12. Paperback and Kindle copies of the Couchbase on Kubernetes and SQL++ For SQL Users: A Tutorial are available for purchase on Amazon.com.
