Northeast HR Association Names 2019 Diversity Champions

Richard Curtis, State Street VP of Global Inclusion, and YW Boston Receive Awards

BOSTON, Jan. 24, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA) has announced its 2019 Frank X. McCarthy Diversity Champion award winners. Richard Curtis, VP of Global Inclusion/Workforce Development for State Street, is the Individual Diversity Champion. Curtis is also a founding corporate member of Work Without Limits, and serves on the Board of Directors at the Carroll Center for the Blind and Operation A.B.L.E. YW Boston is the Organizational Diversity Champion, and is receiving the award for the organization’s work to end racism and empower women.

Both winners will be honored April 11, 2019 at the State Room in Boston, at the 2019 NEHRA Diversity & Inclusion Awards Gala.

“Richard is incredibly deserving of this award,” said Ed Hurley Wales, Principal of EHW Consulting and Co-Chair of NEHRA’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. “He is widely respected in the Diversity and Inclusion space and is known for his passion surrounding implementing initiatives that are inclusive of employees of all abilities. His work at State Street and beyond ensures that people have the support and tools they need to succeed in their role, and truly opens up the world of work for all people.”

YW Boston is a leader in advancing opportunity and equity for women and other marginalized groups. Founded in 1866, YW Boston is recognized as the first YWCA in the country. “This tireless YW Boston team is working to end racism and empower women by helping individuals and organizations change policies, practices, behaviors and beliefs,” said Mim Minichiello, Chair of YW Boston’s Board of Directors and President of Employee Benefits at HUB International New England, LLC. “We see real change that produces more inclusive environments where women, people of color, and in particular, women of color, can succeed. YW Boston is helping to build a better future for Boston.”

This year’s Gala will also feature a conversation between Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor and Never Again MSD co-founder David Hogg, and Globoforce Chief Human Resources Officer and author Steve Pemberton.

Thanks to the generosity of its partners, NEHRA will once again distribute $15,000 in college scholarships to three local high school students — celebrating their academic achievement, strong community service, and overall dedication to promoting harmony among diverse groups.

Sponsorship opportunities and tickets are now available. Companies interested in sponsoring or attending should contact Carole Edson at cedson@nehra.com or 781-239-8705.
