MoSys Bandwidth Engine IC Shipments Exceed 200,000 Units

Unique serial memory and in-memory compute architecture accelerates system performance and reduces pin count and board complexity for high throughput FPGA applications for networking, security, video, and compute

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 18, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MoSys (NASDAQ: MOSY), a provider of semiconductor solutions that enable fast, intelligent data access for cloud networking, security, test and video systems, today announced that shipments of its Bandwidth Engine® ICs have exceeded 200,000 units with nearly half of those units delivered in 2018.

“We are excited by the continued opportunities we see for our Bandwidth Engine and programmable acceleration products in our existing networking and security markets, as well as new markets ranging from smart NICs to video,” said Dan Lewis, CEO and president of MoSys.  “With proven performance advantages, an impeccable quality record and now over 200,000 units in the field, customers can leverage our differentiated technology with confidence.”

As data rates increase to 100s of gigabits per second and requirements for workload acceleration and flexibility expand to nearly every market segment, intelligent platforms with the ability to process, analyze and execute complex algorithms and analytics are required. FPGAs provide flexibility in dealing with constantly changing requirements, feature expansion and variable workload accelerations and have become an increasingly popular choice due to the rising costs and time to develop application-specific devices.  While even the most advanced DRAM-based memory solutions, such as HBM, offer large capacity and increased bandwidth to FPGA platforms, these memory types are still limited by their fundamental memory access rate. The memory in the Bandwidth Engine is 10 times faster than standard DRAM cells.  Bandwidth Engine devices deliver proven memory bandwidth and access performance that enhances the leading FPGA platforms, complementing DRAM solutions and resolving inherent memory access limitations. The combination of the Bandwidth Engine and high-performance FPGAs provides an ideal platform for flexible and scalable application performance. Rapid design-in capability is supported through a robust and proven FPGA ecosystem supporting both Intel and Xilinx.

Bandwidth Engine ICs include up to 16 serial interface lanes, a highly efficient interface protocol and up to 1 gigabit of high-speed random access memory. System acceleration is significantly increased with embedded read-modify-write functions for computation applications, including counting, statistics and metering. MoSys’ highest performance product, the Programmable HyperSpeed Engine, integrates 32 RISC cores into the Bandwidth Engine architecture enabling in-memory compute of user-defined algorithms and application functions to deliver over four times the throughput and a quarter of the latency compared to competing legacy memory solutions.
