Intellectual Property Awareness Series Is Coming to Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C., March 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hacking IP: Considerations for Startups and Entrepreneurs is making its way to one of our nation’s most innovative communities, Charlotte, NC. The fourth stop of the multi-city IP education program presented by the Michelson Institute for Intellectual Property (Michelson IP) will be hosted at Central Piedmont Community College on March 27th. The evening will give budding entrepreneurs and interested community members an opportunity to engage with a distinguished panel of IP specialists as we discuss the importance of a well-developed IP strategy when launching or operating a startup. Registration is free and open to the public.

Charlotte has established itself as the premier destination for FinTech companies, both early-stage startups and venerable brands. The region is also home to illustrious research universities and leading community colleges where many undergraduate students get their start. These bright minds go on to become business founders and leaders, which makes it crucial that they understand the fundamentals of intellectual property so that they can achieve business success.

“Intellectual property is one of the most valuable assets a business can have, although it is extremely discounted despite its value,” says IP attorney Ticora Davis, panel moderator of the upcoming event. “I encourage my clients and business owners to leverage the existing trademark and copyright laws to ensure their competitive advantage.”

Charlotte Hacking IP offers insights into how inventors and entrepreneurs can protect their valuable IP including their business name, website, contacts, trade secrets, patents, and other intangible assets fundamental to the vitality of an enterprise. Join us for a fun and informative session that kicks off with a reception and networking hour, followed by a moderated panel of IP specialists that includes:

  • Lindsey Haaser Braciale: Lindsey is the founder & CEO of Advocations, an organization that amplifies the way companies source, hire, and retain talent with disabilities. She is also founder & CEO of Notable, a data-driven diversity application that crowdsources solutions to known barriers to employment.
  • Ticora Davis (moderator): Ticora is an intellectual property attorney, business strategist, and the founder of The Creator’s Law Firm
  • Louis Foreman: Louis is the founder and Chief Executive of Enventys, an integrated product design and engineering firm. He is also CEO of Edison Nation, Edison Nation Medical, and an adjunct business professor
  • Chad Tillman: Chad is an inventor, entrepreneur, and patent attorney at Tillman Wright & Wolgin
  • Taffy Williams Ph.D.: Taffy is CEO & President of ColonialTDC, a medical technologies company

The Charlotte event is made possible with the support of North Carolina’s Small Business Center Network (SBCN). Comprised of 60 business education and support centers hosted mostly in local community colleges across the Tar Heel State, the SBCN aids in new business development and helps existing businesses grow with training, counseling, and information.

“Michelson IP has been an invaluable partner in providing our network with educational resources that support IP protection,” says SBCN Director Anne Shaw. “We’re excited to welcome the Hacking IP series to Charlotte and collaborate on this insightful evening that is sure to benefit many North Carolinians in their current or future ventures.”

Michelson IP also welcomes the support of host Central Piedmont Community College, Cleveland Community College, Gaston College, Mitchell Community College, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, South Piedmont Community College and Stanly Community College.
